Demurrage
This fee is applicable when the customer holds carrier equipment in the terminal for longer than the agreed amount of free time. It can be incurred for both exports (early drop-off) and imports (late pick-up).
Export: Demurrage days are counted from gate-in (full) to container loading minus free days.
Import: Demurrage days are counted from container discharge to gate-out (full) minus free days.
Applicable to all containers that remain at a terminal location longer than agreed free time.
*Applicable calculation methods may vary by country.
Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Seychelles, Mauritius, Comoro Islands, Madagascar, Namibia, storage is billed and payable directly to the port operator.
Detention
Detention charges occur when the consignee holds onto the carrier’s container outside of the port, terminal, or depot beyond the free time that is allotted.
Export: Detention days are counted from pick-up empty to gate-in full minus free days.
Import: Detention days are counted from discharge full to gate-in empty minus free days.*
This fee is applicable to all containers that remain in the customer’s possession longer than the agreed free time.

Disclaimer: Dry cargo can legally be auctioned by customs authority if not claimed in within 25 days.
CONTRA MARCA
Please note for all Cargo which overstays in port 25 days (re activation of the Contra Marca) is fined by customs in Mozambique. The rate is 5% of the CIF value.
Loading containers under Carrier Haulage after expiry of Contra Marca takes 14 business days.
Please note that above tariff is for standard booking and don’t refer to SPOT booking. Please refer to agreed DEMURRAGE & DETENTION FEES at the moment of booking placement for SPOT (available also on the booking confirmation).
For inland haulage to from inland locations in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique, customers get 24 hours waiting time for packing/unpacking purposes as a maximum. If the 24 hours gets exceeded, herewith the charges that will apply.
- DRY equipment types: USD 400 per day per container
- REEFER equipment types: USD 550 per day per container
- Out of gauge equipment types and 45’: USD 600 per day per container
At borders the maximum allowance will be 48 hours. This will be applicable for inland haulage between Namibia, South Africa and Mozambique ports and Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique inland locations. If the mentioned times gets exceeded, herewith the charges that will apply.
- DRY equipment types: USD 400 per day per container
- REEFER equipment types: USD 550 per day per container
- Out of gauge equipment types and 45’: USD 600 per day per container

Our Self-Service Delivery Order functionality on Maersk has been upgraded once again and we would like to encourage you to request all Delivery Orders via this tool.
Consignees and Agents are able to request Delivery Orders online and once the attached supporting documentation has been verified by our Release Counter and all payments confirmed, your
Delivery Order will be emailed to you within 2 hours.
