Container deposit refunds
We charge a container deposit fee on all merchant haulage import cargo discharged into Conakry port. This is a refundable charge upon the empty return of our containers. The documentation required in order to process the refund is as follows and upon receipt of these documents, our Freight Cashier Department will process the refund within 10 days
- A cover letter requesting the refund, outlining the amounts and bill of lading against which the deposit was made
- A copy of the container interchange report (EIR) issued by the empty container depot
- Original receipt(s) given when the deposit was paid and
- A copy of the container guarantee form
Note: Container deposits are not charged for shipper’s owned containers.

Free time: Calendar day basis (i.e. including weekends and holidays)

Delivery Order issuance
Goods will be delivered to customers against presentation of the original bills of lading or against a telex release.
Commodity:
- We do not accept any used items falling into the category of "toxic waste".
- Pharmaceuticals goods / Medicines: For all imports of pharmaceuticals goods / medicines into to Guinea, destination office approval is required prior booking confirmation.
- Charcoal: Not Accepted
- Frozen Poultry, Beef, Livers and Fish: All imports of frozen poultry, beef, livers and fish products consigned to an unknown or a non-regular customer is not allowed without confirmation of Maersk Guinea and subsequent confirmation of all charges payment from consignee. There is no restriction on commodities other than those listed above. Import of Onions, Potatoes, Butter and Dairy Products is allowed and is not subject to restriction. For any doubt, please do not hesitate to contact below key contacts.
- Used vehicles: The import of used vehicles from world to Guinea is authorized but the importers must provide a technical inspection sheet testifying that those vehicles are suitable for use and have no specific issues that could represent a potential risk.
Vehicles above the age of 13 years old are also not allowed for imports. - Cartridges for Weapons, Inert Projectile: Not accepted
- Freight Collect: Freight collect in Conakry is not acceptable for public and semi-public organizations. All freight collect shipments into Conakry are subject to destination office approval and freight collection charge of 4% of the total amount of the ocean freight should be added systematically.
- Invoicing Restrictions: For Imports into Guinea, adding (invoicing) charges after the closure of AFR (import) and/or ACR task (GCSS) is not acceptable unless payer confirms cost acceptance in writing and/or approval from gn.import@maersk.com
Documentation:
- Clear description of cargo and exact number of packages must be provided
- IMO: According to the regulation in place and to be in accordance with TERMINAL standards, import containers said to contain class 1, 4 and 6.1 dangerous cargos are systematically subject to direct delivery. In case forwarders should not be able to take straight delivery during vessel's call, then afore mentioned containers will have to stay on-board.
Customs requirements:
Customs have the right to confiscate cargo if not released 90 days after arrival in which case MAERSK GUINEE S.A. holds shipper and consignee jointly liable for unsettled freight and local charges.
