Following the announcement from the Government of Panama, APM Terminals has informed shipping lines that it has initiated a stabilization phase and begun temporary operations at the Balboa (Pacific side).
According to APM Terminals, this stabilization phase aims to safeguard the continuity of Panama’s logistics hub, while a new terminal operating system is deployed and operations are progressively reactivated with the least possible disruption.
APM Terminals has indicated that during this stabilization phase, activities are focused on three key areas to support a smooth transition to the new operating system and the gradual reactivation of terminal operations:
- Cargo and terminal inventory
- Inventory of containers currently at the terminal.
- Review of cargo condition, with special attention to perishable goods.
- Infrastructure and operational readiness In coordination with the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) APM Terminals is conducting:
- Inventory of cranes, equipment, and technology systems.
- Technical evaluation of operational infrastructure.
- On-site verification of safety conditions and operational flow.
- System transition
- Transition, testing, and validation of the new operating system supporting terminal activities.
APM Terminals has also communicated that, during this phase, container movements at the terminal may be regulated as part of the system transition, with updates as operations progress.
As a shipping line operating through Panama, Maersk is closely monitoring the situation based on information provided by the terminal operator and relevant authorities. Updates will be shared through our official communication channels as they are communicated to shipping lines.
