The uncertainty surrounding the new tariffs and a changing regulatory environment are not a novelty for European businesses. In fact, 80% of them claim changes to duties and tariffs as a top geopolitical risk to their supply chains in 2025.
While tariffs have justifiably been top of mind for many businesses, they have always been part of international trade, and this will continue to be the case. For European businesses, it is the new Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) regulations, like the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), that are adding complexity to the way they conduct trade.
“The combination of tariffs and new trade regulations is affecting the quantity of trade barriers businesses have to comply with and increasing the time and costs of conducting international trade. Trade compliance is becoming a license to play - but it can also be an opportunity and a market differentiator,” adds Lars Karlsson, Head of Global Trade and Customs Consultancy at Maersk.
As the pressure to stay compliant and report accurately is growing, our customers have many questions on how to navigate the situation.
